"It is God who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice" ~ Qur'an 30:48

Shura Council's Annual Conference in Anaheim.
More details soon!

The Islamic Shura Council thanks its fellow Southern Californians for visiting local Mosques at the annual Open Mosque Day. We also appreciate all the participating Mosques and their volunteer teams for their extraordinary organization, opening their doors and extending their hospitality to the visitors. As we gather more information from the participating Mosques, we are encouraged by the initial reports that thousands of guests from across SoCal visited Mosques and enjoyed their visit while learning more about Islam and Muslims.

One visitor wrote, "Led by Fr. Bradley, 15 parishioners gathered at Masjid Gibrael yesterday. Br. Riaz Khan was wonderfully welcoming as were other members of the community. Both they and we are looking forward to meeting again to discuss what more we all can do to embrace each other AND hold up this fledgling relationship for all the community to see."

Several media outlets also promoted Open Mosque Day including the Orange County RegisterPress Enterprise, Southern California Public Radio and Voice of America. We are also encouraged to learn from the Council of Islamic Organizations in Greater Chicago and the Northern California Islamic Council who want to replicate the SoCal Open Mosque Day experience in their respective communities.

This symposium will feature Prison officials, Interfaith partners and Justice advocates along with several former inmates who will share their stories.

VC Star 10/29/13 GOP Leadership conservative letters

GOP leadership

  • Posted October 29, 2013 at 3:35 p.m.

Re: Bill O'Reilly's Oct. 26 column, "Is the party over for tea party?":

Once again, O'Reilly's column about the tea party is full of inaccuracies. It's leadership is absolutely central. Grover Norquist and the Koch brothers are its principal funders. You look at those beautiful air conditioned buses transporting hundreds of people to their protests. That doesn't come cheap.

Moderate and conservative Republicans are scared to death to say or do anything that will upset Norquist or the Koch's, fearing they will pump in millions of dollars to defeat them in the next primary. Those millions don't come from "regular folks."

The reason the Occupy Wall Street people made a mess and looked bad is that they are truly grass roots - poorly funded and poorly organized.

If O'Reilly wants to blame the mainstream media, so be it. All they do is record prominent retired Republicans saying they could never have worked with these nuts. Nobody could doubt Ronald Reagan's conservatism. Yet, many of his aides say these tea party people don't put our country first. Bob Dole said he was doubtful that he or Reagan could get the nomination now because of these radicals.

The tea party's threat of getting their way or they will hurt our country is unprecedented and treasonous. Reagan and Tip O'Neill were an example of opposite views of governing, but they put the country first and compromised. Now, if a Republican compromises he faces defeat in his own primary.

Our whole history is about people with different views compromising for the benefit of our country. The only issue that could not be compromised was slavery. You know where that took us. It seems the tea party is ready for another civil war.

Expensive shutdown

  • Posted October 29, 2013 at 4:57 p.m.

Re your Oct. 25 editorial, "Shutdown an expensive lesson in governing":

Shutting down our nation in times of fiscal recovery is more than just a lesson in governing. The 30 or 40 tea party Republicans who attacked the United States with the compliance of the majority of House Republicans, were in actuality committing a criminal act of extortion.

The Congressmen's U.S. pledge says: "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Apparently, no government is good government for the Republicans and al-Qaida is cheering on the GOP to continue its destructive quest to bring down the nation along with the president.

Will the GOP cost the nation another $24 billion with a shutdown? Probably.

Tea party alive and well

  • Posted October 29, 2013 at 3:39 p.m.

Re: Bill O'Reilly's Oct 26 column, "Is the party over for tea party?":

The tea party is not over until the fat lady sings! O'Reilly has a strong sense of what is right for America, and believe me, he knows individual conservative Americans still believe in the mission of the tea party.

The facts are the tea party is alive and well and growing each day. Just this month, the Ventura County tea party launched the "Citizens Journal" a new newspaper to provide objective local/state/national stories affecting county residents.

Each day we all see the intrusion of the Obama government into our daily lives. This health care debacle is is just another intrusion adversely affecting everyone, sneaking into our pockets and lives even without many people knowing it.

Yes Virginia, The tea party is alive and protecting the values that this great nation was founded on.

Providing "objective" reporting!! Give me a break if it did not provide a mouth piece to the devious tea party obnoxious views, some thing would be wrong.
It is not enough that the fox mega-horn, the Rush lies and the AM station on the extreme right is NOT enough.
Lord show them the way as they do not know the way!!
